She came to us as "Caroline" and my first thought was "she's mostly white, I didn't want a white dog". She walked in our house, peed on the floor, and we never stood a chance. Her nickname was "the Beast" and she taught us about counter-surfing and trash-snacking. She loved to poke you with her very cold, very wet nose, and you could see laughter in her eyes when you jumped or squealed. She welcomed my first child into the family, and would give me this calm "what's wrong with this kid?" look when her tail became a toy. When I found a lump on her back, we had it tested immediately and they found nothing. When it came back, we did a biopsy and found cancer. The x-rays found even more cancer. A day later, she was struggling to breathe, and it was time. Maegan was 6 1/2 years old. She is my first Rainbow Bridge dog. She was our first grey, but she will not be the last. Thanks for choosing her for us!

Awww....I have tears in my eyes. It is soooo difficult losing our grey friends. Your situation brought up memories of one of my greys that developed cancer...exact same way with the lump in her next. My heart goes out to you.
Yes, once a grey owner...it seems you always are. _________________ Nannette D'Agostino |

| Oh that is a sad story! yes 6.5 is too young, but think of how many more great years you gave that hound! How long ago did the rainbow bridge occur? |

| It hasn't gotten easier- there are these big empty spaces in our house where a greyhound should be stretched out in ways that seem impossibly uncomfortable. We did try to adopt another hound, but she had severe separation anxiety and we couldn't keep her. Now we are just waiting to get a couple of vacations out of the way- we want to be home and have time to bond with our new dog. I just keep telliing myself our new hound will find us when the time is right for him/her... Until then there will be a big hole in our house in the shape of a greyhound. |
