I fostered a 2.5 year old Red Brindle named Just Az Artistic in 2005 right off the race track.

My Wife and kids were still back in Indiana, so it was just us two out here for a couple of months.  During that time I changed her name to Princess.  We adopted her sometime in May 2005.  She became my "Baby Girl."  She followed me around everywhere.  My wife liked it when she came over to her, but Princess was definitely my "Baby Girl."

She would sometimes get foxy at the apartment (then later at the house) and that would mean that she would want to go to the bark park.  We would load the dogs up into the car and off we'd go.  The weird thing is that she wouldn't want to go running around, or go to meet the other dogs.  She'd want to go to get petted by the other people at the park.  We hardly could get her to run at all.

Then tragedy struck September 17th, 2007.  We had a house fire.  We lost My "Baby Girl" (~4.5 yrs old), a Bassett Hound / Black Lab Mix (~10 yrs old), a Tea Cup Poodle (~9 yr old), and a cat (~9 yr old) in the fire. I will say that I am glad that none of the animals got burned in the fire.  All of them died due to smoke inhalation.

We really missed (and still do) our old pets.  The FDFF people were good to us, when we were ready, they got us a couple of sister Greys Moonlite & Sunset (now called Lily & Daisy).  Figgy looked a lot like Princess, so we're adopting her too.  We love our new Greys, But we sure miss our old babies...

Oh man that just made me so sad. Im sorry the fire took all your dogs, and everything else. I am glad though that we were able to get you some more hounds. No one will ever replace your loved ones, but atleast you have new memories to create now.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your sentiments.  While the three new Greys (and we got two other Puppies - a Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise) are creating new memories I will always miss the way Princess greeted me at the door whenever I came home.  We called it the "Prancing Pony."  Basically if you ever saw "The Lone Ranger" and you saw how Silver reared up on his back two legs and pawed with his front two legs, you now know what "The Prancing Pony" move is.  Princess would almost always come to the door and rear back on her two legs and paw at me with her two front legs.  She wouldn't ever scratch me or even touch me with her paws, but she would be so excited.

I had even taught her to sit, shake, and Lie Down on command.  She would get the commands mixed up sometimes, but she always wanted to please us.

The new Greys are fitting into our family good.  We love them they are making us happy.  We especially appreciate everything FDFF has done for us these past 6 months.  Thanks again.

Jim B.

My heart goes out to your family and the loss of all your furry friends.  What a heartbreaking way to lose loved ones so dear.  You'll never forget them and all the love you shared together along with all the special memories.  I sure could use a box of tissues right now.

It is so nice to hear that you have adopted again and you'll make new memories and share new love with your new greys.

It is never really easy and you will often feel the pain of that loss.  I know I still do with all of my greys that I've loved and lost.  Those that have passed cannot be replaced, however, I know you'll find much joy with your new furry friends.  We honor those who have passed by sharing our love and hearts with new animals who need a forever home.

Again, my deepest sympathy for your loss

Nannette

Your "Baby Girl" was beautiful.  The "prancing pony" just reminds me how each greyhound is so special, so unique, and irreplaceable.  Good thing that we have such special memories of our greyt friends- and the openess in our hearts to make new ones with new hounds.  We share your sadness in your loss, and hope your new greys and little ones have brought healing into your home.

We finally moved back into our house after being out of it for 6 months after the fire.  Our new dogs adapted to the move from the rental house to our real house good.  They are exploring the yard and the house.  We are teaching them the stairs.  Figgy didn't have a problem with the stairs.  Her foster home had stairs.  Liliy and Daisy we fostered right from the track.  The rental home was a 1-story home.  Lily has figured out the staairs, if you are there with your hand one her collar right at the base of the stairs she will go right up.  You don't have to do anything other than just touch her collar now.  Poor Daisy (She's really timid & shy).  She really doesn't like the stairs.  You almost have to drag her up the stairs to get her to go up the stairs.  After she's up there, she runs around like a maniac though like she's  really proud that she's up there.  She's getting much better going up stairs though.  In another week, she will running up and down the stairs like crazy...

Thanks for your comments, we really appreciate them.
